NMDC Group has announced the official inauguration of its new Abu Al Bakhoush dredger, a 148-meter self-propelled heavy-duty cutter suction vessel designed to strengthen the company’s marine dredging capabilities and support its international expansion strategy.
The vessel was inaugurated on October 9, 2026, in Nantong, China, adding to NMDC Group’s existing fleet of more than 170 vessels.
Built by Jiangsu Haixin Shipping Heavy Industry Co. Ltd., Abu Al Bakhoush has a maximum dredging depth of 38 meters and total installed power of 30,040 kilowatts, including a 7.8-megawatt cutter.
The new dredger is designed to undertake complex marine engineering operations, including rock cutting, trench excavation, navigation channel development, harbour dredging and coastal infrastructure projects.
NMDC Group said the addition will strengthen its ability to execute large-scale marine projects across international markets, particularly in port development, offshore infrastructure and land reclamation.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, NMDC Group CEO Dr. Yasser Zaghloul and representatives from the UAE Embassy in China, alongside industry partners and maritime experts.
The vessel has been classified by Bureau Veritas and holds GREEN PASSPORT and CYBER RESILIENT certifications, reflecting its compliance with environmental and digital resilience standards.
NMDC Group CEO Dr. Yasser Zaghloul said the investment supports the company’s strategy of expanding into international markets while strengthening operational capabilities and creating long-term shareholder value.
The fleet expansion forms part of NMDC Group’s broader investment in advanced marine equipment and infrastructure to support its growing project portfolio across the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and other international markets.
