Empower has commenced excavation and foundation works for a new district cooling plant at Dubai Science Park after awarding the contract for the initial construction works.
Upon completion, the new plant will have a total cooling capacity of approximately 47,000 refrigeration tons and is expected to serve nearly 80 mixed-use buildings in the area.
The project forms part of Empower’s expansion strategy to meet growing demand for district cooling services across Dubai and will support the continued development of Dubai Science Park.
The new facility will incorporate technologies including thermal energy storage systems, treated sewage effluent and artificial intelligence-enabled smart solutions. These technologies are intended to reduce fresh water consumption, improve operational efficiency and optimise electricity grid loads during peak periods.
Empower said the project will expand its district cooling network and cooling capacity while extending its service coverage to areas experiencing urban and economic growth.
