CBD Becomes First UAE Bank to Enable Payments from Other Banks Through Its App

Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) has introduced a new capability allowing customers to initiate payments from eligible accounts held with other banks directly through the CBD mobile app, bringing multiple banking relationships into a single digital platform.

CBD said it has become the first bank in the UAE to introduce the capability after receiving approval from the Central Bank of the UAE to operate as a Third-Party Provider under the country’s Open Finance Initiative. The bank had previously activated Open Finance in a live environment in December 2025.

Through the new service, customers can view balances held with other eligible banks and initiate payments directly from those accounts using the CBD app. The service is designed to provide customers with greater visibility across their banking relationships while allowing them to manage payments involving different banks through a single platform.

The Third-Party Provider approval enables CBD to expand the capabilities of its mobile app beyond accounts and services held directly with the bank. The UAE’s Open Finance framework facilitates secure, consent-based data sharing between licensed participants, enabling customers to access financial services across different institutions.

CBD CEO Dr. Bernd van Linder said the approval represents an important step in the bank’s Open Finance strategy and will help enhance how customers manage their financial services while supporting the UAE’s broader digital transformation agenda.

CBD Chief Digital Officer Vladislavs Mironovs said the approval allows the bank to extend its mobile app beyond its own ecosystem and build a platform where customers can securely access and manage accounts held across different banks.

CBD said additional Open Finance services are planned to be introduced later in 2026 as the bank continues expanding the capabilities available through its digital platform.
